It was great to hear everyone's August wrap up...great job everyone...now onto September...September is a month of change....change of the seasons, trees, weather, activities...everything seems to just change in September...and I love this!
Whether you have been with us from the beginning, are just joining in, or have taken a break and are ready to participate again...let's all dedicate to making 1 great change this month. Big or small, it doesn't matter...just choose 1 change and stick with it!
I can't wait to hear what you plan to change...! Leave a comment here and let us know!

OK...we have decided. This month we will totally convert over to local meat only. We purchase local meat about half the time just because of convenience, but this month I will strictly buy local. Luckily we only eat meat about twice a week so this shouldn't be too hard.
ReplyDeleteI'm going for school lunches with no throw-away items (plastic bags wrappers, etc.)
ReplyDeleteThis month I am back on the trail and am eager to participate! You certainly know how to hold a blogger accountable!
ReplyDeleteI plan to do a short series of greener organizing solutions. Traveling through the large stores out there, browsing sales ads, I am seeing so much plastic...so many disposable items, and things that aren't made with nature in mind. I'd really like to get our family back in touch with what the earth creates and use its wonderful resources to organize our home.
Also, Suzy, I am interested to hear how you do with your challenge. Do you plan to consume cured meats like bacon, or smoked meats? How did you source your providers? (A side note, I was thinking of doing a 100-mile Thanksgiving dinner. That is all food stuffs sourced from growers within 100 miles of our home.) And I am interested to hear how you sourced these meats. We get our fresh pork and beef from a local grower each year in bulk. The taste and texture is unbelievable. So much better than the grocery store. And we know the animals were raise humanely, and were fed proper healthy diets. What a great challenge month! Thanks!
Annie, we have done this this year and love it. I have however, thrown in a packaged granola bar a time or 2, for convinience, but other than that it has been no waste!
ReplyDeleteAbbie, we are lucky that we have a shop just a mile from our home that only sells local, properly raised meat. I don't even have to think about it...if they sell it, I know it will be local.
here is what I have planned for this month and hereafter... good luck to all with their September change! http://mapleleafred.blogspot.com/2010/08/one-small-change-september.html
ReplyDeleteI'm continuing on with preserving as many foods as I can.
ReplyDeleteHere's my post on my wrap-up for August and this month's plan.

I am just joining in, and I think this is awesome!! We just switched to having our milk delivered by a local dairy....so buying local and the container gets reused. We love it! I will start thinking of another change we can make this month.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great challenge!
My plan for September is to learn how to put up fruit. We have an overflowing apple tree and I've never canned or frozen apples before.

Thanks Suzy!
My change for september is going no-poo. I recently read about ditching shampoos and switching to baking soda as a natural cleanser and apple cider vinegar as a rinse. I starting only four days ago, but I plan for my experiment to last through the month of September. I feel like my hair has so much more body and my hair doesn't get greasy as fast. Lovin' it so far :).
ReplyDeleteMy change for september is storing all my garden veggies properly and promptly! post about it is here: http://mouseriver.blogspot.com/2010/09/one-small-change-september.html
ReplyDeleteNoelle..I went no poo a few months ago and I love it! I was getting my haircut today and the lady gave me such a weird loo when I told her what I use. Let me now how you lie it (sorry letter's are sticing on my eyboard) :)
ReplyDeleteWe are joining in for the first time this month. I'm very excited! Our (very) small change this month is using all cloth napkins. We wrote about it here:

Keep us updated on the no-poo, Noelle! I'm curious to here how it goes!
My September change is so simple, I wonder why I haven't done it before. I always want something to sip on, and often when I'm out I'm bad about stopping somewhere to grab something. I recently was gifted a Kleen Kanteen, which I have completely fallen in love with. So my September change is never leave the house within my kanteen in tow. I'll save money, cut down on waste and have something better to drink!
ReplyDeleteMy September change is to get rid of single serve items. We are pretty much already there, with the exception of granola bars and my Hansen's sodas (for shame, I know!). So this month I plan on making all of dd's granola bars.
ReplyDeleteAwesome Kayleigh...let me know if you find some good recipes. I was making granola bars a ton last spring, but as soon as summer hit I pretty much stopped baking and can't wait to get back to it. the recipe I used most was this one
