A Greener Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is coming very soon and we are going to take the week off from this blog and enjoy some family time!  We will be back next week energized and ready to start thinking of our December change!  In the mean time I was wondering what your plans are to make this a 'greener' Thanksgiving?

Some ideas I have come up with are:

~Buy organic-Whether you usually buy 90% of your groceries organic or 0%, why not make an effort to choose 1 item that you wouldn't normally buy organic and find an organic and/or local alternative.
~Reuse-If you are hosting Thanksgiving this year, forget about the disposable dishes.  If you don't have enough plates or silverware for all of your guests, simply explain that you are having a 'no waste' Thanksgiving and ask them to bring their own plate setting.
~Compost Your Waste-throw your fruit and veggie scraps in the compost pile
~Cloth Napkins-Set out cloth napkins at dinner.  If you don't have enough, simply find some material and cut it into squares...don't worry about the ends fraying, it's only a napkin!

Please share your Green Thanksgiving ideas with us in the comments below!

Happy Thanksgiving!!  I am so thankful for all of you continuing with me on this journey to make our planet happy!

  1. this year we bought our turkey from a FR turkey farm (alive and still feathered).... and then ordered a "Harvest bag" filled with local produce goodies from a local CSA farm. Everything we will have is from that bag and a local farm..... Decorations for the tables are done with leaves and pine cones from outside. This year- no additional money was spent outside of the turkey and veggies... and main focus- RELATION! Super easy and relaxed!

  2. One of the things I love about the holidays is that I get to use my Grandmother's silverware and china the cloth tablecloth my mother embroidered with a design that goes with the china.
