My One Small Change: Food

Something that has been nagging at me lately is the fact that I have not spent much time in the kitchen over the past month.  October was really busy and November will be even busier, but I still feel a bit disappointed that I have not been carving out time to get in the kitchen.  And, as a result, there has been a lot of processed food that has snuck back into the pantry.  With a daughter who now brings her lunch to school each day I am looking for convenient foods like granola bars, fruit snacks, and crackers.  I think I made bread once or twice last month, but would love to start making this a twice a week activity again.

So....my November change is to get my butt back in the kitchen!  To make granola bars, bread, muffins, cookies, etc.  Since it is a busy month, I am not going to stress myself out by planning on what I will make and when I will do it...I am just going to find some time each week to get in there and make what I can.  I am so excited to start enjoying delicious home made food again and start reaping the benefits!

What I hope to gain from this change:

1.  Less packaging will be thrown away or recycled by purchasing less packaged food
2.  We will be putting less fillers and additives in our bodies by eating more home made food made with ingredients that we choose to put in it.
3.  We will save money
4.  We will all feel better
5.  A sense of accomplishment!

  3. Holy cow! Are we on the same wavelength or what?? I've been cooking too. Just finished two batches of crab soup to freeze and have a pumpkin in the oven roasting to be pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread and pumpkin cookies!! I just felt the need to cook and nourish. May have something to do with the fact I just read Animal, Vegetable< Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver.. Local crabs steamed and picked right here at home, and pumpkins from a local farm. YUM! I'm on board with your bread baking. So I geuss I've made my small change without even thinking about it!! Putting your granola bars on my list too!!!

  4. Nice! Homemade food is really important to me too, because of the control over ingredients and the packaging issues. I have times where I can't cook as much as I'd like too, and it always makes me feel so much better to get in the kitchen on a regular basis.
I need to start my one small changes again!

  5. Hmmm, I love home made food, especially bread. My BFF and I just planned a bread baking day later this month. It seems like baking is in the air these days.

Thank you so much for the link. :-D

  6. using more natural household cleaning products is my focus this month---i have 4 kids, dog, cat, (6 people in the house!..? and am constantly wiping down counters, etc., We use too much Windex or Comet when we don't need to everyday! We've really been slowly eliminating chemical-based cleaning products out of the house--we use natural soaps and hair cleaning products more--Planning on making my own everyday cleaning up mix--white vinegar, baking soda, lavender oil--finding a good mix online and will try it out this week---and just use that for wiping countertops after lunch, etc..Happy baking to everyone!
