  1. My change went great and was so super easy! I bought glass straws for my family and we put a stop to throwing away disposable straws. A small change, yes, but over time all those straws add up, so I am very excited and happy with this change!

For Feb. I am going to focus on greening up my laundry!

  2. My small change has gone well too- it was to go green slowly in as many ways possible. So far, I've changed my detergent (and quit using evil fabric softener- which will definitely take some getting used to!), switched the kids' soap to organic with no chemicals, and also been trying really hard (seriously!) to remember my bags when going grocery shopping! lol Isn't it neat that going 'green' usually works out to also being healthier? Like, for some reason when I have my market bags with me- I have a hard time filling them with junk food! Going green might work out well for my waistline too! Yay me!

  3. Our change to a wholefood diet has been going well, we are slowly moving towards, more and more wholefood in our diet and as a result, our bodies are better for it.

  4. My small change was to not go out to eat often at all with our family but to enjoy family dinners together with home cooked foods. I think this change is easier in winter since I am more apt to want a warm meal and not drive to a restaurant but be cozy in our house. We succeeded with our change and will continue to work on it this coming month. I have two teens and they a in charge of one weekly meal and this also has helped. They learn to cook and plan a meal and I feel less of a burden to provide so many many meals each week.

I have not decided what next month's change will be.

  5. My small change was to spend more time in my garden.
Unfortunatly the heavy rains put a bit of a dent in my plans, but we've had some really nice sunny days this past week so I've jumped right in and now my second veggie bed is prepared and ready to plant next month!
I've also been making up batches of pesto pretty much every weekend and now have a huge amount in the freezer ready to get me through the winter. Yum yum!

I haven't yet decided what next month's change will be, although I do now have some beautiful veggie bags that I want to put to use!

  6. Our small change was to buy only local apples, the idea being that we would have to get them at local farmers' markets, which would likely result in our buying more local produce, rather than veggies shipped here (NYC) from California. It's been a great success! In addition to local apples, we've been eating local squash, local sweet potatoes, local spinach (who knew that that could be gotten here in January?), local onions, and I've forgotten what else!

  7. My little change for Jan was to commit to a CSA which I had been contemplating for a long time. Finally, I did it - I committed to it. This was a big step. Now we can start getting local produce and feel a part of it.

For Feb, I want to do 2 things.
    1. I want to start using cloths for kitchen cleaning thus reducing my paper consumption.

    2. I also want to make a natural cleaner for cleaning the kitchen surfaces.

I hope I can make these things happen.

  8. January went well. Despite the fact that life has not gone back to normal (at least another month of legal crap ahead of us), I managed to use cloth bags every time I got groceries or anything else. Two bags that I had to get were deli stuff once and grain another time. I hope to sew a few grain bags so it won't happen again (my produce bags can't handle finer stuff). Since I only buy something from the deli about twice a year, I am not too concerned about that one.

For February, I hope to reduce the paper coming to the house. That is, the junk mail. The amount has increased recently. Considering that the only paper I buy is toilet paper and writing/drawing kind, it is shocking how much of it sneaks in. I will have to contact various companies and request to be removed from their lists. I hate calling, phones are not my friends. I hope I will succeed :)

  9. January was awesome. I started a "battery jar", where we collect all of our used batteries. Then I found a local recycle depot that will recycle them for free! YES!

I also signed Oregon's Ban the Bag petition.

I am excited for my February changes!
