A Sad Goodbye to One Small Change

My personal One Small Change in March was to simplify.  I gave away clothes, dishes, toys, and cleared a lot of clutter from my home.  But there was still a part of me that felt cluttered.  I felt like I was being pulled in many different directions and was constantly saying how busy I was.  Then it hit me...I was creating my own busyness.

I started One Small Change over a year ago as my way to inspire and support others on their journey to living a more sustainable lifestyle.  This project has always been very dear to my heart and it gives me so much joy to be a part of something so important.  Along the way I have seen hundreds of changes occur in people's lives and I am honored to have a small part in this.

One step I am taking today to simplify my life, is to let One Small Change go.  I am voluntarily creating less busy in my life and opening up more time to play outside, sit in the sunshine, and hang with my friends and family.  I will continue to blog over at Hip Mountain Mama and hopefully still inspire a few to make eco friendly changes in their lives.

Perhaps there is someone out there who wants to create their own One Small Change Project...and if you do, please let me know as I would love to be a part of it.  My family will continue to make small changes in our own lives and look forward to hearing about your continued changes!

Thank you so much for all your support and for taking this journey with us!  And congrats on all of your amazing changes!

We will be announcing a wonderful Earth Day Giveaway on this blog in a couple of weeks, so stick around to check it out.  The giveaway will be awesome and will be open to anyone and everyone who is dedicated to creating a better world.

~Peace

  1. I am so sad to see this end, although I totally understand as there are months that I've been too busy to blog about our small changes too. I just wanted to tell you what a difference your blog has made in the life of my family. Having a reason to put our goals into words and send them out into the world made us feel more accountable and even the smallest of changes have changed us too and made our household more aware and encouraged... thankyou and good luck in the future! I'll still be following your other blog. I'm a huge fan! :)

  3. Although I certainly understand (I've been trying to simplify my own life recently), I am very sad to see the close of One Small Change. It was through this project that my family found its green path. It was this project that inspired me to recently create a green Web site for our community. It was this project that ensures my child will grow up healthy in a healthier world. Thank you for all you have done for us and our planet!

  5. was sad for a minute, too, but I totally understand. I admire you all for making the decision to focus more on opening up your free time! One Small Change started an amazing journey for me and my family...and we will continue on the path of being more eco-friendly as time goes by. THANK YOU! I'll continue to incorporate the changes we make in my blog...when i get TIME. Time is precious! Gotta live it. Peace, Love, and Hugs

  6. :( Very sad here. Your site has inspired our house to change so much in just the last 4 months since we've joined. I would take it on myself, but as I'm just entering this new green lifestyle, I do not feel qualified. Plus, I also understand the busy factor and feel like I'd be in the spot you are now if I did. I understand how you want to cut the busy and commend you for wanting to do all in your capacity to be with your family more. I have had to make many of those changes in the last few years as I've had more children and I always get annoyed when people tell me, for example, that I am throwing away my talent for photography to be at home more. So I will not whine about One Small Change leaving. I will thank you for this little movement you've started. I will hope that someone else will pick up the project. And if not, I will hope that many of us continue it in our homes. Thank you, and many happy memories to you and your family.

  7. I just wanted that I have not blogged on my blog for over a year because it was just one more thing in my day too. I did enjoy it but I would much rather sit outside or do a craft with my children. I didn't need the added stress of must get this blog finished before this date and time. So I completely understand and goodluck on your journey! And thank you for being an inspiration to so many. ^^

  8. While I'm sad to see this blog go, it's obvious you've inspired others and the changes will continue. I've followed you since the start, but I wasn't very good about posting comments all the time and I don't have a blog. It's just one more thing that I didn't want to add to my plate. So I completely understand where you are coming from and I look forward to continuing to follow you at Hip Mountain Mama!

  11. This post has helped me to finally make up my mind to let go of a blog that I'm no longer passionate about. Thank you!

  12. The one small change concept was revolutionary to me. No longer do I feel that I have to live perfectly green all at once. Making progress is better than doing nothing at all. Thanks for your inspiration. (Now I'm off to go make dryer balls!)

  13. I'm sure that was hard, but good for you! I know it's tough to let go of the things we love but sometimes it's so much better.

  14. One Small Change was a recent discovery and I have loved everything I read, but I'm sure you'll be giving some of the same info on the Hip Mountain Mama blog and we'll be able to follow you and your family as you make your own changes and enjoy your lives together. Simplifying gives me great joy, hard though it is sometimes, so I'm right with you there. Enjoy having just a little less on your plate. You still have plenty to keep you busy.

  15. Totally understand. I am letting go of my blog this month as well in the name of simplying.

    I love that you wrote:

"Then it hit me...I was creating my own busyness."

You said it in fewer words then I could. :) Love it.

  18. Sad....but I completely understand why you are doing this. I have felt the need to do this a few times. Precious time with family is far more important than anything else!

I will miss the challenges but plan to continue challenging myself and my family. I will still blog about it and maybe I will start a challenge on my blog.

    Thank you for the inspiration!

  21. Thank you for creating a friendly, nurturing place where we could all pass around ideas to make our lives a little better while helping reduce our impact on Nature and resources.
This has been an exceptional year for me, cutting back on non-necessitites. (Just to let you know - I've kept all the small changes I've made here!)
    Many thanks!
